NEET

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will be responsible for the conduct of JEE Main and NEET examinations from 2019 onwards. As per the decisions given out by the NTA, JEE Main 2019 and NEET 2019 will be conducted twice a year and only in the online mode. 

The schedule as published is given below:

  • Feb 2019 exam (NEET)
    • Online Applications - 01-Oct to 30-Oct 2018
    • Examination - 2 sessions of eight days between 03-Feb to 17-Feb 2019
    • Results out by first week of March 2019.
  • May 2019 exam (NEET)
    • Online Applications - Second week of Mar 2019 onwards
    • Examination - 2 sessions of eight days between 12-May to 26-May 2019
    • Results out by first week of June 2019.

Other Medical Entrances:

AIIMS

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) was established by an Act of parliament of 1956 as an autonomous institution of national importance and its objectives and functions were defined.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana six new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences have been established similar to AIIMS, New Delhi - Bhopal, Patna, Jodhpur, Rishikesh, Raipur and Bhubaneswar.

As per the initiative taken by Director, AIIMS, New Delhi, the competitive Entrance Examination of MBBS-2017 is being conducted through a Computer Based Test (CBT) [Online].

The duration of the examination shall be 3½ hours (three hours and thirty minutes).

JIPMER

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry (JIPMER) under Government of India since the year 1956, is one of the leading Medical Institutions of India. Spread over a sprawling 195 acre campus in an urban locale of Puducherry (formerly Pondicherry), JIPMER is 170 kms. by road from Chennai. JIPMER has been declared as an “Institution of National Importance” by an Act of Parliament, JIPMER, Puducherry.

JIPMER has started its JIPMER Karaikal, from the academic session 2015-16 with yearly intake of 50 students. Karaikal is located about 150 km south of Puducherry city.

Entrance Examination will be conducted through a Computer Based Test (CBT) [Online] only. The examination shall be held on Sunday, 04th JUNE, 2017. The duration of the examination shall be 2½ hours (Two hours and Thirty minutes).

JEE Main

Introduction

CBSE has announced that JEE Apex Board will conduct JEE MAIN 2017 on 02/04/2017 in the online mode and on 08/04/2017 and 09/04/2017 in the pen and paper mode for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programmes in NITs, IIITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions etc.

The JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs/ISM Dhanbad.

The States of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh,Nagaland, Odisha & some other institutions have joined JEE (Main) system. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, which were earlier admitting based on their State level examination, are also advised to fill in the JEE (Main)–2017 application form online

JEE Advanced

Introduction

Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are institutions of national importance established through Acts of Parliament for fostering excellence in education. At present, there are twenty-three IITs across the country.

Admission into various undergraduate programmes leading to a Bachelor’s, Integrated Master’s or Bachelor-Master Dual Degree in Engineering, Sciences, Architecture, or Pharmaceutics across IITs is through the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced). JEE (Advanced) will be conducted by the seven Zonal Coordinating (ZC) IITs under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB).

Indian nationals (including PIO/OCI) who wish to appear in JEE (Advanced) must write Paper-1 of JEE (Main) which will be usually held in the month of April and meet stipulated performance criteria. JEE Main is conducted by CBSE.

Apart from IITs, other centrally funded institutes have used JEE (Advanced) ranks in the past. These include:

  1. Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc)
  2. Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) located in Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati
  3. Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram
  4. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Rae Bareli
  5. Indian Institute of Petroleum & Energy, Visakhapatnam

Other Engineering Entrances

National Level

Apart from the exams JEE MAIN (to gain admission into NITs/IIITs and probably CFTIs) and JEE ADVANCED (to be taken by IIT aspirants), there are some of the well known institutes that have their own entrance examinations which attract huge number of aspiring engineers. Of late, these institutes also have gained reputation for the quality education they offer. Some of the institutes, apart from BITS Pilani, are Vellore Institute of Technology(VIT), Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Cochin Institute of Science and Technology(CUSAT), SRM,etc. One of the admission routes to IISERs is JEE ADV while for IIST it is through JEE ADV only. Institutes like SASTRA use JEE MAIN as one of the admission criteria.

National Entrance Screening Test (NEST)

The National Entrance Screening Test or NEST is a compulsory test for admission to the 5-year Integrated MSc programme in basic sciences - Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics – at National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Center for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CBS), Mumbai. Both NISER and CBS are autonomous institutions established by Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, in 2007.

All the candidates admitted to 5-year Integrated MSc programme at NISER and CBS are eligible for INSPIRE, Govt. of India, scholarship of 5,000/- per month and 20,000/- per year for carrying out summer projects.

Besides, top performers at NISER and CBS, securing overall grades above certain threshold at the end of final semester, will be eligible to appear directly for the interview for admission to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Training School.

Indian Statistical Institute (ISI)

Founded by Professor P.C. Mahalanobis in Kolkata on 17th December, 1931, the Indian Statistical Institute gained the status of an Institution of National Importance by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1959.

The Headquarters of ISI is located in Kolkata. Additionally there are four centres located in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Tezpur. Research in Statistics and related disciplines is the primary activity of the Institute. Teaching activities are undertaken mainly in Kolkata, Delhi and Bangalore.

In addition, the Institute has a branch at Giridih devoted to agricultural and sociological research and also a network of units at Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune, that are involved in activities related to Statistical Quality Control and Operations Research. 

IISER Admissions

The Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) are a group of premier science education and research institutes in India established by the Government of India, through the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). There are seven IISERs across the country namely IISER Kolkata in West Bengal, IISER Pune in Maharashtra, IISER Mohali in Punjab, IISER Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, IISER Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, and IISER Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

IISERs are a unique initiative in science education in India in which teaching and education will be totally integrated with the state-of-the-art research nurturing both curiosity and creativity in an intellectually vibrant atmosphere of research. Each IISER is a central government funded autonomous institution awarding its own Masters and Doctoral degrees. IISERs are destined to become Science Institutes of the highest caliber and reach the prestigious position in the global setting that IISc, IIMs and IITs presently enjoy.

IIST Admissions

The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), a 'Deemed to be University' under Section 3 of the UGCAct 1956, established by the Department of Space(DOS), Government of India, offers undergraduate, post-graduate,doctoral and post-doctoral programmes in broad areas of space science, technology and applications

Undergraduate programmes at IIST:

IIST offers the following undergraduate programmes in the academic year 2018-19.

Undergraduate Programmes

  1. B.Tech. in Aerospace Engineering – 60 seats Duration- 4 years
  2. B.Tech. in Avionics – 60 seats Duration - 4 years
  3. Dual Degree (B.Tech. and M.S./M.Tech.) - 20 seats Duration - 5 years

The programme, B.Tech in Avionics, has been renamed as B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (with specialisation in Avionics) with effect from 2018 admissions.

In the Dual Degree programme, students receive on successful completion of the 5-year (10 semesters) programme, a B.Tech. degree in Engineering Physics and a M.S./M.Tech. degree in one of the following four streams.

M.S. in Astronomy and Astrophysics
M.S. in Earth System Science
M.S. in Solid State Physics
M.Tech. in Optical Engineering

CUSAT Coachin

CUSAT(Cochin University of Science and Technology)is a premier Science and Technology University of the country. The University rises to the expectations of student community by offering very specialized courses in Naval Architecture, Polymer Technology, Photonics, Safety and Fire Engineering and Marine Engineering apart from a host of traditional science and engineering courses.

CUSAT is academically structured into 9 faculties: Engineering, Environmental Studies, Humanities, Law, Marine Sciences, Medical Sciences & Technology, Science, Social Sciences, and Technology. 

There are three separate campuses, two in Cochin and one at Pulinkunnoo, Alleppey. 

CUSAT offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in various fields like engineering, science etc. However the admission process for undergraduate programmes is being discussed here. 

SRMJEEE(UG)

SRM University is one of the well known universities in India and offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in Engineering, Management, Medicine and Health sciences, and Science and Humanities. The University has its own Engineering Entrance Examination called SRMJEEE through which students are admitted to B.Tech programmes.

MANIPAL UNIVERSITY (MU-OET)

Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal, a constituent institute of Manipal University, established in 1957, is one of the first self-financing engineering colleges in the country.

The University has off-campuses in Mangalore and Bangalore, and off-shore campuses in Dubai(UAE) and Melaka (Malaysia). The Mangalore campus offers medical, dental, and nursing programs. The Bangalore Campus offers programs in Regenerative Medicine. The Dubai campus offers programs in engineering, management and architecture, and the Melaka campus offers programs in medicine and dentistry.

MIT offers 16 Undergraduate and 25 Postgraduate programmes.

The Manipal Group, a pioneer in higher education services with a 60-year-old legacy of excellence, also owns and operates campuses in Sikkim and Jaipur in India, and in Nepal, Malaysia, and Antigua, in the Caribbean.

Admission to various courses is through Manipal University Online Entrance Test(MU-OET).

AEEE

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is a University established under section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. The University is spread across the following five campuses in three states of India: Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, with the University headquarters at Ettimadai, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

They are:

  1. Kerala : Amritapuri (Kollam) and Kochi
  2. Tamil Nadu: Coimbatore
  3. Karnataka: Bengaluru and Mysuru

A new campus for School of Engineering is proposed at Vengal, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The University offers over 200 undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in Engineering, Business, Arts & Sciences, Biotechnology, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Ayurveda.

Amrita University conducts Entrance Examination every year on an all India basis for admission to the 4 year B.Tech Programmes offered in the Amrita Schools of Engineering under the University at its Amritapuri, Coimbatore and Bengaluru campuses. This examination is referred to as “Amrita Entrance ExaminationEngineering,” in short as AEEE.

IISc BS (Research)

IISc BS(Research) Programme

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has opened its portals to undergraduate students by introducing a four-year Bachelor of Science (Research) Programme in 2011.

About BS(Research) Programme:

The programme is organized into eight semesters. The final semester is devoted exclusively to a research project. The following major disciplines are available in the Bachelor of Science (Research) Programme:

Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Environmental Science, Materials, Mathematics, Physics

VITEEE (VIT)

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT University) is a premier educational Institution in Tamilnadu. It offers 27 Undergraduate, 30 Post graduate Programmes across 10 Schools of study.

Admission to undergraduate programmes is made on the basis of all India entrance examination, called Vellore Institute of technology Engineering Entrance examination (VITEEE). Around 2.23 Lakh candidates registered for the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) in 2017.
